– Remove air ducts to footwell vents -A- and -B-.
Note
Versions of footwell vents -A- and -B- vary on vehicles with and
without rear A/C unit, this illustration shows the version on vehi‐
cles with rear A/C unit. Refer to

– Remove condensation water drain hose from the A/C unit.

– Mark the installation position of washers of hex nuts -C- on
plenum chamber rear wall, for example using a waterproof
marker.
– Remove hex nuts with washer -C-
Note
A rubber base -D- is glued on to washer of hex nuts -C- as a seal.
– Check fit of the caps -A- and -B- on connections to evaporator,
they must fit securely so that the connections are not damaged
when removing the A/C unit.
– Disconnect harness connector -A-.
– Disengage bracket for wiring harness -B- from the A/C unit
-D-.
– Release the remaining wiring harness fasteners on A/C unit
-D- (for example, cable ties -C-).
Note
From MY 2009, certain vehicles with a 6-cylinder TDI engine
without an "auxiliary heater", have an Auxiliary Heater Heating
Element - Z35- instead of a fuel-driven auxiliary heater installed
depending on the emissions standard (running change depend‐
ing on the engine). Refer to the Audi Sales Program and ⇒
Parking/Auxiliary Heater; Rep. Gr. 82 . Loosen the respective
wire connections for vehicles with an Auxiliary Heater Heating El‐
ement - Z35- . Refer to

– Remove the A/C unit -A- from vehicle in direction of front pas‐
senger side.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Hose Clamps - Up To 25 mm - 3094-
♦ Compressed air gun, commercially available
♦ Cooling System Tester - VAG1274- (and corresponding
adapter)
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
