Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning - Edition 04.2013
❑ Removing and Installing. Refer to
⇒ "15.10 Front Expansion Valve, Removing and Installing", page 269
Note
After the A/C compressor is switch‐
ed off in this vehicle, it may take a
relatively long time for the pressure
on the high pressure side to de‐
crease (the expansion valve(s) is/
are cold, the pressure on the low
pressure side increases quickly af‐
ter deactivation, the expansion
valve(s) closes/close and the refrig‐
erant can only flow slowly to the low
pressure side).
16 - Evaporator
❑ Evaporator in the front A/C unit (under the instrument panel)
❑ To remove the evaporator, the front A/C unit must be removed and disassembled. Refer to
⇒ "17.3 Front A/C Unit Evaporator, Removing and Installing", page 306
⇒ "18 Front A/C Unit, Disassembling and Assembling", page 307
❑ For cleaning the A/C system evaporator with Ultrasound A/C Cleaner - VAS6189- , refer to
⇒ "10.3 Front (and Rear) A/C System Evaporator, Cleaning, Using Ultrasound A/C Cleaner VAS6189A
", page 200
.
17 - Service Connection - Low Pressure Side
WARNING
Service
connections
(connection is not equip‐
ped with a valve) or the
valves installed in them
must only be removed
when refrigerant circuit
has been discharged.
❑ There are different versions (with primary sealing valve or with Schrader valve) depending on the refrig‐
erant line. For distinguishing characteristics, refer to ⇒ Refrigerant R134a, Servicing; Rep. Gr. 87 ; A/
C System, General Information (Refrigerant R134a, Servicing; A/C System, General Information).
❑ For measuring and discharging, refer to ⇒ Refrigerant R134a, Servicing; Rep. Gr. 87 ; Refrigerant Circuit
(Refrigerant R134a, Servicing; Refrigerant Circuit, Using Service Station).
❑ Depending on engine version, it may be necessary to remove different components in order to be able
to connect to service coupling of the service station.
❑ To remove and install the service connection or the valve insert with the refrigerant circuit empty, use,
for example, an adapter from the Socket for A/C Valves - T10364- .
18 - Cap
❑ With seal
❑ Always screw on
19 - Pre-Volumes
❑ Is a component of refrigerant line to compressor.
❑ Pressure fluctuations are damped in the damping chamber
❑ Not installed in all vehicles (depending on the engine and on the version). Refer to the Parts Catalog.
20 - Connection of Refrigerant Line to Evaporator in Rear A/C Unit
❑ Only present in vehicles with a rear A/C unit (optional equipment)
❑ High pressure side
