– Insert one section each of hose -A- and -B- on to both con‐
nections to heater core.
– Hold a container -C- under hose of lower connection -B-.
– Using a compressed air gun -D-, carefully blow coolant out of
heater core (into container -C-) via hose -A-.
– Remove the lower left instrument panel trim. Refer to ⇒ Body
Interior; Rep. Gr. 70 ; Instrument Panel; Instrument Panel,
Removing and Installing .
– Remove the accelerator pedal module. Refer to ⇒ Fuel Supply
System; Rep. Gr. 20 ; Accelerator Pedal Mechanism; Accel‐
erator Pedal Module with Throttle Position Sensors, Removing
and Installing .
– Remove the Brake Lamp Switch - F- with its retainer (do not
loosen brake lamp switch from retainer). Refer to ⇒ Brake
System; Rep. Gr. 45 ; Brake Pedal; Brake Light Switch (New
Generation) or ⇒ Brake System; Rep. Gr. 45 ; Brake Light
Switch (Old Generation) .
– Disengage the bracket for control modules and relay carrier,
which is mounted in left area next to the A/C unit, from the
instrument panel transverse member.
Note
The relays and control modules themselves are not removed,
rather are to be stored in footwell in such a way that they do not
hinder other work or become soiled or damaged.
– Remove the air channel for air duct in driver's footwell.
– Remove the left cover of heater core. Refer to
⇒ "9.10 Left Heater Core Covers, Removing and Installing,
Front A/C Unit Installed", page 117
– Remove the lower right instrument panel trim. Refer to ⇒ Body
Interior; Rep. Gr. 70 ; Instrument Panel; Instrument Panel,
Removing and Installing .
– Remove the glove compartment. Refer to ⇒ Body Interior;
Rep. Gr. 68 ; Storage Compartments and Covers .
– Remove the air channel for air duct in front passenger's foot‐
well.
– Remove the right cover from the heater core. Refer to

– Detach floor carpet on right and left sides of center tunnel and
fold it carefully back far enough that it is not damaged during
other work and that it does not interfere. Refer to ⇒ Body In‐
terior; Rep. Gr. 70 ; Instrument Panel; Instrument Panel,
Removing and Installing .
– Cover the floor mat in footwell and on center tunnel in area
below heater core connections with leak-proof foil and ab‐
sorbent paper.
