On vehicles from MY 2011 with a diesel engine and with the
start/stop system without the optional "auxiliary heater" (with
a fuel-driven auxiliary heater or an Auxiliary Heater Heating
Element - Z35- ), a Heater Coolant Shut-Off Valve - N279- may
be installed in addition. In the case that the heating output on
these vehicles is lacking, additionally check the actuation and
functionality of the heater coolant shut-off valve -N279- . In‐
corporation into the Vehicle Electronics and Activation of the
Heater Coolant Shut-Off Valve -N279- . Refer to Wiring dia‐
grams, Troubleshooting and Component locations). For vehi‐
cles with an auxiliary heater heating element -Z35- , the heater
coolant shut-off valve -N279- is activated via a relay (for ex‐
ample, via the Engine Coolant Shut-Off Valve Relay - J541- )
from the Climatronic Control Module - J255- front A/C control
head. Refer to Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting and Com‐
ponent locations and use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester via the
"Guided Fault Finding" function.
From MY 2013, reinforced Auxiliary Heater Heating Elements
- Z35- with a maximum heating output of 1500 W (instead of
1200 W) are being installed on vehicles as a running change.
Ensure the correct auxiliary heater heating element -Z35- al‐
location to the vehicle. Refer to the Parts Catalog.
