– Mark both coolant hoses -A- and -B- to rear heater core -C-
(risk of interchange).
– Clamp off both coolant hoses -A- and -B- to rear heater core
-C- (for example, using Hose Clamps - Up To 25 mm - 3094- ).
– Cover the area below A/C unit, where any coolant flowing out
may reach, with absorbent paper (so that any coolant still
present will not flow on and into A/C unit or on to floor mat).
– Place a container under both connections to heater core -C-
and disconnect both coolant hoses.
– Remove the rear A/C unit.
Note
When removing, hold the A/C unit so that no coolant can flow out
of heater core -C-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
– Bleed the rear heater core -C- before or when connecting both
coolant hoses -A- and -B- in the same way as described for
replacing the rear heater core. Refer to
⇒ "9.40 Heater Core, Removing and Installing, Rear A/C Unit
Installed", page 182
with rear A/C unit installed).
– Bleed the cooling circuit. Refer to
⇒ "7 Coolant Circuit, Bleeding", page 78
chanical; Rep. Gr. 19 .
– Evacuate and refill the refrigerant circuit. Refer to ⇒ A/C Sys‐
tem with Refrigerant R134a; Rep. Gr. 87 ; Refrigerant Circuit
(A/C System with Refrigerant R134a; Refrigerant Circuit, Us‐
ing Service Station).
– Check DTC memory of the Climatronic Control Module - J255-
front A/C control head (and of Rear A/C Display Control Head
- E265- ) and erase any DTCs displayed. Use the Vehicle Di‐
agnostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
– If necessary, perform a basic setting and output diagnostic test
mode on the A/C system. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
– Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit. Re‐
fer to
⇒ "21 A/C System, Operating after Filling Refrigerant Circuit",
page 332
.
Note
Observe the information regarding operating the A/C system after
filling. Refer to ⇒ A/C System with Refrigerant R134a; Rep. Gr.
87 ; A/C System General Information (A/C System with Refriger‐
ant R134a; A/C System General Information). After charging the
A/C system.
– If necessary, check function of A/C system. Use the Vehicle
Diagnostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
