Reinfusion

LYX COMPONENT COLLECTION
This section provides instructions for manually reinfusing
collected blood components and/or saline if the instrument
cannot perform this function automatically.
Use this procedure if automated reinfusion did not occur or
cannot be performed during a procedure.
If manual reinfusion of collected blood components is indicated
after ending a procedure, when venous access remains open,
follow the instructions below. Follow applicable standard
operating procedures to decide the appropriateness of manual
reinfusion.
1.
Clamp or seal the donor line between the donor line
sampling site and the "Y" junction that connects the donor
line to the anticoagulant line.
2.
Clamp or seal all lines exiting the cassette.
3.
Remove the pressure cuff from the donor's arm.
4.
Prepare a Y-type component recipient set with a compatible
cannula or needle (for example: Fenwal's Y-type blood
component recipient set with standard filter).
5.
Aseptically spike a saline unit (0.9% sodium chloride
solution) to one side of the "Y" recipient set. Prime the
recipient set through the needle (or cannula) and completely
back up through the second "Y" spike.
6.
Close all roller clamps.
7.
Remove the kit saline container from the instrument. Hang
the recipient set saline container on the instrument's saline
scale.
8.
Aseptically insert the second "Y" spike into the port on the
blood component bag to be reinfused.
9.
Inspect the donor line for air bubbles between the apheresis
needle and the sampling site. Ensure that the line to the
sampling pack is clamped. If no air bubbles are present,
insert the primed needle/adapter into the injection site and
stabilize.
WARNING: Do not proceed with manual reinfusion of red
cell container contents if there are air bubbles in the donor
line. Any air in the line may be infused into the donor and
might cause an air embolism.
