The operator ends the procedure by touching the STOP button
and selects the option to Process product (if available). The
remaining red cells from the in-process container and the
separation chamber will be processed and pumped to the red cell
container, if needed. Red cell preservation solution will
automatically be added to the red cell container. The final red
cell product will remain in this container and will not go through
the filtration process on the instrument. The red cell product
may be filtered off-line following standard operating procedures
if a leukoreduced product is desired.
Note: Fenwal recommends performing sterile transfer of the
contents of the Red Cell Container to one of the Red Cell Storage
Containers from the kit, or another approved red cell storage
container, by use of a sterile connecting device. Any excess air
can be expelled into the Red Cell Container. The process and
product information should be documented according to facility
standard operating procedures.
Any collected red cells that exceed the maximum Single Unit
Recovery volume, but are less than the minimum absolute red cell
volume for a 2RBC collection, will be pumped into the in-process
container or returned to the donor, if the ability to return is an
option.
