ROCEDURE
To burp the red cell products, follow these steps:
1.
Close the clamp between the leukoreduction filter and the
"Y" junction, using forceps or a side clamp, if present.
2.
Ensure the clamps on the lines leading to the red cell storage
containers are open. Remove the paper strip from the red
cell storage containers segment tubing, if desired.
3.
Remove one red cell storage container, invert and hold port-
side up, and gently squeeze to expel any air into the other
storage container.
4.
Continue to squeeze the container until the entire segment
tubing connected to the first container is filled ONLY to the
"Y" junction with red cells.
5.
Close the clamp on the line to the container that has just
been burped.
6.
Open the latch on the leukoreduction filter fixture.
7.
Open the clamp on the line to the leukoreduction filter
fixture, if present.
8.
Gently squeeze the other red cell storage container, port-side
up, to expel any air up into the leukoreduction filter.
Continue to squeeze the container until the entire segment
tubing connected to the container is filled with red cells
ONLY to the "Y" junction.
Note: If burping the second red cell storage container becomes
difficult, remove the leukoreduction filter from the leukoreduction
filter fixture and place the filter on a flat surface above the height of
the storage container.
9.
Close the clamp on the remaining storage container.
10.
Touch the check button to verify the products have been
burped.
CAUTION: Do not strip the segment tubing below the
leukoreduction filter until separated from the filter.
