Adjust
the rack
guide (see page
17-15).

the problem is not corrected
by
adjusting the rack guide, replace
the
gearbox.

Adjust the belt
tension. Replace
the
belt, if necessary
(see
page 17-14).
If
the
engine
st
alls
when the
wheel is turned while the vehicle
is stopped or moving at low
speed,
adjust
the idle
speed (see
section 11).
Check
power
steering fluid
level.
If
the level
is
excessively
low,
check
for leaks
in
the
system
.
Add
fluid
to the specified tevel,

If fluid level
is
OK,
check O-rings
and
seals
on
both
ends of the
pump
in
l
et hose, and the
PIS
pump housing
mat ing surfaces
and drive shaft oi
t
sea
l for
suc-
tion
leaks.
Check
the
reservoir
for
cracks.
Replace
parts as neces-
sary.
Adjust
the
beh
tension
(see
page
17-14)
or
replace belt
Check
if pump pressure
is
normal
and
the gauge needle travel is 500
kPa (5 kgf/cm
2 ,

psi) or
less.
Check
the flow
control valve if
the
need
le
travel exceeds 500 kPa

kgf/cm2,

psi).
If
the flow
control
valve
is
normal. replace
the pump
as an assembly.
