Observe the AIT Gear Position
Indieator:
1. Turn the ignition switch ON
(II).
2. Observe the NT gear position
indicator, and shift each posi-
tion separately.
Does any indicator stay on w hen
the shift lever is not in that
position?
YES
Disconnect the
A!f
gear position
switch connector.
Do all gear position indicators go
out?
NO
Con nect the
AfT
gear position
switch connector .
Measure ATP R Voltage:
1. Shift to all positions other
than
[RJ ,
2. Measure the voltage between
the D6 and 820 or 822 termi-
nals.
Is there battery vortage?
YES

Possible Cause
• Short in AIT gear position switch wire
• Faulty AIT
gellr
position switch
NOTE: Code 1705 (5) is set when the PCM receives two gear position inputs at
the same time.
The system is OK at this time.
Check
the wire harness for d!lm-
age.
Replace the
A/T
gear position
switch .

Wire side of female terminals
Check for short in the wire
between the D6 terminal and the
A/T gear position switch or AfT
gear position Indicator,
and
check for open in the wire.
between the 820 and 822 termi-
nals
and
body ground
(G101).
If
wires are OK, check for loose ter-
minal fit in the PCM connectors.
If necessary, substitute a known-
good PCM and recheck.
