Planning an IP-DECT system

Location of the base stations

After you analyze the surroundings and determine the average cell size, you must decide the
location of each base station. The best location ensures sufficient coverage and traffic capacity.
Location depends on the following factors:
Client's requirements. See
Coverage and traffic capacity. See
Synchronization. See
LAN Access. See
Power the base stations. See
Different types of antennas. See

Air Synchronization

Place each IPBS within the air sync coverage of at least one other base station. The air sync
cover radius is larger than the speech radius. Therefore, calculate only the speech coverage
when placing the base stations. Ensure that all base stations synchronize with preferably two
but at least one other base station.

LAN access

Access to the LAN is important for base stations. Place the IPBS as close as possible to
existing LAN ports. The cable length can be a limitation. The ethernet 802.3 10/100base-T
cable is 100 meters.

Power the base stations

Plan how you will power the base stations. For information about the various ways of providing
power and power supply requirements, see
page 63.

Antennas

Different types of antennas have different functions.
