Installing and operating the IPBS and IPBL
Trunk supervision on IPBS/IPBL Master and Standby Master is a regular testing to see if the IP
communication with the Communication Manager still works. Status inquiry messages are sent
periodically for all trunks in Active, Up, and Down state to Communication manger to test if the
status has changed. Redundant Trunks in Standby mode are not supervised. Supervision of
Redundant Trunks starts only if all the Primary Trunks are in Down status and the Redundant
Trunks requires to be used instead.
Load Balancing
You can configure several Primary trunks and Redundant trunks for communication between
the IPBS/IPBL Master and Communication Manager. One trunk can support up to 250
simultaneous IP-DECT calls. If you configure more than 250 IP-DECT users on the IPBS
Master, perform an Erlang traffic calculation to decide the number of Active trunks required to
meet customer requirements.
Note:
To overcome limitations related to number of simultaneous calls and performance
Note:
when the trunks are connected to CLAN boards, keep the traffic on the system
within the following limits:
Example: When one of the active CLAN trunks goes down, the users are moved to the
remaining active trunks. Ensure that the recommendation matches such a situation as
well.
If possible, follow the recommendation to use Processor Ethernet (PE) instead of
CLAN for IP-DECT trunks.
The IPBS master automatically assigns an IP-DECT user to one of the Active trunks. So a kind
of static load balancing exists in the system. However, if the number of Active trunks is not
sufficient for the configured number of DECT users, the reason might be that some users on
one active trunk are busy while users on another active trunk are still available.
Note:
Do not configure more than 10 Primary Trunks and 10 Redundant Trunks in the
Note:
IPBS Master. The group of Primary Trunks are usually configured on the same
Communication Manager system. You can even configure a group of Primary
Trunks on a Communication Manager network, for example, several
Communication Manager systems connected to a trunk and working on the same
numbering plan. The same applies to a group of Redundant Trunks.
