6.7 Possible Malfunctions of the Front Driving Axle

The list of the front driving axle possible malfunctions and directions for their reme-
dy is specified in Table 6.7.1.

The tractor is moving forward and the front axle does not activates automati-
cally when the rear wheels are slipping
Worn parts in the transfer gearbox
overrunning coupling.
Seizing grooves of the overrunning
coupling outer cage are fouled by the
oil decomposition and parts wear
products.
Deformed springs of the rollers
pressure mechanism.
The overload-release coupling in
the intermediate support does not
transfers required torque.
Driven and driving disks of the
overload-release coupling are
worn.
Belleville disc springs have lost
flexibility or broken.
The transfer gearbox control link is
too long.
Premature wear of the tyre thread and tyres lamination of the front wheels
Air pressure in the front and rear
wheels tyres does not corresponds
to recommended nominal values.
Wheels toe-in is adjusted incor-
rectly.
The FDA is constantly deactivated
because of the breakage or sei-
zure in the transfer gearbox con-
trols.
Free play in the main drive gears
bearings.
Incorrect meshing of the main
drive gears.
Increased noise and overheating in the main drive
Malfunction remedy
Replace the overrunning coupling.
Remove the coupling and wash the coupling parts.
Remove the coupling and wash the coupling parts.
Adjust the coupling to transfer torque from 400 to
800 N·m by tightening the flange nut from the side
of the transfer gearbox.
Replace disks.
Replace springs.
Adjust length of the transfer gearbox control link.
To prevent malfunctions, maintain air pressure in
the front and rear wheels tyres according to rec-
ommended nominal values.
Adjust the wheels toe-in.
Proceed as follows:
- check operation of FDA forced activation, remedy
malfunction;
- adjust the control mechanism of the transfer
gearbox.
Adjust preload in the main drive driving gear bear-
ings.
Check and if necessary adjust meshing according
to contact pattern.
