18. During transportation movement of the tractor with trailer or semi-mounted ma-
chines over long distances (including from one field to another) we recommend to discon-
nect the cardan shaft from the tractor and machine.
19. The machine with cardan shaft connected to the tractor shall be maintained,
cleaned and repaired only when the PTO shaft is deactivated and the tractor engine is
stopped.
Deactivate the PTO shaft in following cases:
- when the tractor is stopped, but only after the hitched machine completely finishes
its operating cycle;
- while turning or while lifting the machine into transportation position;
- while going up steep hills.
Do not activate the PTO shaft in following cases:
- when the tractor engine is stopped;
- when the machine connected to the tractor is in transportation position;
- when the machine tillage tools are penetrating soil;
- if there is process material on the machine tillage tools or if they are jammed or
seized;
- if there is significant inclination angle (deflection) in any plane of the machine car-
dan shaft joints.
While working with the tillage rotational machines with active tillage tools, it is nec-
essary to observe additionally following rules:
- do not activate the PTO shaft when the machine is lowered directly onto soil. Acti-
vate the PTO shaft only when the tillage machine is ready for operation and it is lowered
into position, where its tillage tools do not contact the soil surface and remain at the dis-
tance of at least 35 mm from the soil surface;
- lower the machine with rotating tillage tools smoothly, while the tractor moves for-
ward steadily;
- prevent movement with the tillage tools penetrating soil and with activated and de-
activated PTO shaft into direction, which does not correspond to the machine operating
direction while performing its work;
- while working on hard soil, at first handle the transverse rows to drive into the stint,
then handle the field in longitudinal direction;
- we recommend to work at the minimum soil penetration depth, which is required
for specific crop. This is necessary to decrease load onto the tractor PTO shaft and to de-
crease fuel consumption during the tractor operation. This is especially important to con-
sider when the tractor operates with the combined tillage-planting units.
4.10 Methods for Changing the Tractor Towing and Hitching Properties and
Cross-country Ability
There are following methods for changing the BELARUS-921.6 tractor towing and
hitching properties:
- increasing the tractor trailing weight;
- increasing the wheels tyres traction on soil.
The tractor trailing weight increase can be achieved as follows:
- usage of the quick-removable ballast weight.
The wheels tyres traction on soil increase can be achieved as follows:
- select the optimal pressure in tyres depending on operation conditions and load on
the tractor axis;
- use the rear axle differential locking.
Note – Nominal values for air pressure in the BELARUS-921.6 tractor front and rear
tyres under available load and speed are described in subsection 3.2.8 " Selecting the opti-
mal inner pressure in tyres depending on operation conditions and load on the tractor axis,
tyres operation rules ".
