5.4.1.4 Operation 3. Checking the cooling fluid level in the engine cooling system.
The fooling fluid level in the engine cooling system shall be monitored according to
the expansion tank filling level 9 (Figure 5.4.3). CF quantity in the expansion tank shall be
at the level 20...30 mm from the expansion tank bottom to the upper edge of clamp 11,
which fastens the expansion tank 9. If CF level is below 20...30 mm from the expansion
tank bottom, then top up the expansion tank with CF up to the upper edge of clamp 11,
which fastens the expansion tank.
1 – upper sealing; 2 – drain cock; 3 – nozzle from radiator to water pump; 4 – water
radiator; 5 – fan casing; 6 – tie rod; 7 – radiator plug; 8 – steam-outlet and compensating
tube; 9 – expansion tank; 10 – expansion tank plug; 11 – expansion tank fastening clamp;
12 – nozzle from engine to water radiator; 13 – side sealing; 14 – upper sealing.
WARNING: THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM OPERATES UNDER PRESSURE,
WHICH IS MAINTAINED BY THE VALVE IN THE WATER RADIATOR PLUG. IT IS
DANGEROUS TO REMOVE THE RADIATOR AND EXPANSION TANK PLUGS WHEN
THE ENGINE IS HOT. IF IT IS NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE WATER RADIATOR OR
EXPANSION TANK PLUG, THEN LET THE ENGINE TO COOL OFF, PLACE THICK
CLOTH OVER THE PLUG AND SLOWLY TORATE IT, SO THE PRESSURE WILL BE
GRADUALLY DECREASED PRIOR TO COMPLETE PLUG REMOVAL. AVOID BURNS
FROM HOT FLUID! AVOID CONTACT WITH HOT SURFACES OF THE ENGINE COOL-
ING SYSTEM ELEMENTS!
