Table 6.8.1 (cont'd)
Malfunction, evidence, reason
The steering wheel does not rotate in opposite direction (by 20-30 mm)
when force is released from the steering wheel after turning
Excessive friction or seizure in the
steering column mechanical ele-
ments.
(the steering wheel continues rotating after turning)
The sleeve is seized with spool
(possibly because of fouling)
The springs for returning the me-
tering pump spool into neutral po-
sition have lost flexibility or broken.
The splined shank of the steering
column and the metering pump are
installed not on the same axis.
The splined shank of the steering
column and the metering pump are
installed
with
insufficient
clearance.
The metering pump leakage through the spool shank, along split between
housing  gerotor pair  cover
The spool sealing is worn.
Loosened bolts of the metering
pump cover.
The steerable wheels are wobbling during movement
Conical pivots of the HPS or
steering link hydraulic cylinders
are not tightened.
Increased free play in the steer-
ing link joints.
Mechanical connections or bear-
ings are worn.
Air presence in the HPS hydraulic
system.
To remove friction in the steering column, proceed as
follows:
- loosen the upper nut;
- lubricate the friction surfaces of the plastic bushings;
- eliminate the contact between the cardan forks and
the steering column bracket walls.
Spontaneous rotation of the metering pump
Contact the dealer. It is necessary to wash the metering
pump parts. The service provider shall assemble and
check operation according to the manufacturer manual
1)
Contact the dealer. The service provider shall replace
springs, assemble and check operation according to the
manufacturer manual
Loosen four bolts, which fasten the metering pump to
the steering column, then rotate the steering wheel and
install the metering pump on the same axis with the
splined shank of the steering column. Tighten bolts with
torque from 20 to 25 N·m.
Loosen four bolts, which fasten the metering pump to
the steering column. To increase clearance, install addi-
end
tional washers of thickness no more than 1,5 mm be-
tween the metering pump and the steering column
bracket. Tighten bolts with torque from 20 to 25 N·m.
Contact the dealer. The service provider shall replace
faulty sealing, assemble and check operation accord-
ing to the manufacturer manual
Tighten bolts with torque from 30 to 35 N·m.
Tighten nuts of pivots.
Remove free play in the steering link joints according to
section 5 "Maintenance"
Replace worn parts.
Pump the HPS hydraulic system by rotating the steer-
ing wheel with movement of guiding wheels from ex-
treme left into extreme right position (from one ex-
treme position into another) for 2-3 times.
