10. When the tractor and hitched machine are located along straight line and when
the cardan shaft is fully retracted, check for sufficient clearance L
between the pipe end face and the cardan joint fork end face. Minimum allowable clear-
ance L
shall be no less than 50 mm.

11. When the cardan shaft is connected, place all safety devices into proper condi-
tion, lock the shaft protective casing from rotation by chains as shown in diagram in Figure
4.9.3.
12. If necessary, limit the RMD lifting height into upper position while the machine
lifting. This is required to decrease the inclination angle, to prevent the cardan shaft con-
tact and damage, and for providing for safe clearance between the tractor and machine.
13. Maximum allowable inclination and turn angles (Figure 4.9.5) for the cardan
shaft joints are indicated in Table 4.9.1.

1)
Other versions are allowed (see the cardan shafts and machines manufacturer's
documentation).
2)
Short-term for the PTO shaft operating without load.
3)
For machines in transportation position with PTO shaft deactivated.
14 Lock the mounted device lower links while working with the mounted and semi-
mounted machines with the cardan drive.
15 After the cardan shaft dismounting it is necessary to put on the protective caps
onto the PTO and PTI shafts shanks!
16 When the PTO shaft is deactivated, it is necessary to take into account the dan-
ger of the cardan shaft and some mechanisms of the hitched machine moving under iner-
tia force. Therefore, it is prohibited to enter into the dangerous area between the tractor
and machine until the PTO shaft rotation is completely stopped!
17 Check operation of the machine with the cardan shaft connected to the PTO and
PTI shafts at the maximum and minimum RPM of the tractor engine crankshaft.
