9.14.2 Configuring Inter-AS 6PE OptionB (with ASBRs as PEs)

Inter-AS IPv6 Provider Edge (6PE) OptionB (with ASBRs as PEs) enables separate IPv6
networks that connect to different ASs to communicate.
Context
Before configuring inter-AS 6PE OptionB with Autonomous System Boundary Routers
(ASBRs) as PEs, ensure that tunnels have been established between ASBRs to transparently
transmit IPv6 packets. The tunnels can be MPLS Label Switched Paths (LSPs) or MPLS Local
IFNET tunnels. By default, an ASBR uses an MPLS LSP to transmit IPv6 packets. If no MPLS
LSP is available, an ASBR uses an MPLS Local IFNET tunnel to transmit IPv6 packets. The
difference between an MPLS Local IFNET tunnel and an MPLS LSP is that the former does not
require you to enable MPLS LDP on interfaces used to connect PEs.
Perform the following steps on each PE to which separate IPv6 networks are connected:
Issue 02 (2014-09-30)
NOTE
l In inter-AS 6PE OptionB with Autonomous System Boundary Routers (ASBRs) as PEs, PEs
usually establish MPLS Label Switched Paths (LSPs), MPLS Local IFNET tunnels, MPLS TE
tunnels, or GRE tunnels between each other. By default, a PE uses an MPLS LSP to transmit
IPv6 packets. If you want a PE to transmit IPv6 packets over an MPLS TE or a GRE tunnel, run
the tunnel-policy command to configure a tunnel policy on the PE and run the peer tnl-policy
command to apply the tunnel policy to IPv6 labeled routes. Then, IPv6 labeled routes will be
able to be iterated to these tunnels. If the MPLS LSPs, MPLS TE tunnels, and GRE tunnels are
all unavailable, the PE uses MPLS Local IFNET tunnels.
l In inter-AS 6PE OptionB, PEs usually establish MPLS LSPs, MPLS TE tunnels, or GRE tunnels
with ASBRs; ASBRs usually establish MPLS LSPs, MPLS Local IFNET tunnels, MPLS TE
tunnels, or GRE tunnels with each other. By default, a PE or an ASBR uses an MPLS LSP to
transmit IPv6 packets. If you want a PE or an ASBR to transmit IPv6 packets over an MPLS TE
or a GRE tunnel, run the tunnel-policy command to configure a tunnel policy on the PE or ASBR
and run the peer tnl-policy command to apply the tunnel policy to IPv6 labeled routes. Then,
IPv6 labeled routes will be able to be iterated to these tunnels. If the MPLS LSPs, MPLS TE
tunnels, and GRE tunnels are all unavailable, the PE or ASBR uses MPLS Local IFNET tunnels.
l In inter-AS 6PE OptionC, PEs usually establish BGP LSPs with each other. ASBRs usually
establish MPLS LSPs, MPLS Local IFNET tunnels, MPLS TE tunnels, or GRE tunnels with PEs
or other ASBRs. By default, a PE or an ASBR uses an MPLS LSP to transmit IPv6 packets. If
you want a PE or an ASBR to transmit IPv6 packets over an MPLS TE or a GRE tunnel, run the
tunnel-selector command in the system view to configure a tunnel selector on the PE or ASBR
and run the tunnel-selector command in the BGP view to apply the tunnel selector to BGP-IPv4
labeled routes. If the MPLS LSPs, MPLS TE tunnels, and GRE tunnels are all unavailable, the
PE or ASBR uses MPLS Local IFNET tunnels.
