9.13 Configuring BGP4+ 6PE

By configuring BGP4+ 6PE, you can connect separated IPv6 networks through the MPLS
tunneling technology.
9.13.1 Before You Start
Before configuring BGP4+ IPv6 Provider Edge (6PE), familiarize yourself with the usage
scenario, complete the pre-configuration tasks, and obtain the required data. This can help you
complete the configuration task quickly and accurately.
Applicable Environment
6PE interconnects separated IPv6 networks at different locations by using the MPLS technology
in an IPv4 network. Multiple modes are used to connect separated IPv6 networks by using the
tunnel technology. The tunnel in 6PE mode supports the IPv4/IPv6 dual stacks on PEs of the
Internet Service Provider (ISP). It identifies IPv6 routes by using the label assigned by MP-BGP,
and implements IPv6 interworking through tunnels between PEs.
Pre-configuration Tasks

Run the display bgp ipv6 peer [ verbose ] command to check detailed information about
BGP4+ peers.

Establishing tunnels between PEs
NOTE
MPLS label switched paths (LSPs), MPLS Local IFNET tunnels, MPLS TE tunnels, and GRE tunnels
are often used between PEs to transmit IPv6 packets. By default, a PE uses an MPLS LSP to transmit
IPv6 packets. If you want a PE to transmit IPv6 packets over an MPLS TE or a GRE tunnel, run the
tunnel-policy command to configure a tunnel policy on the PE and run the peer tnl-policy command
to apply the tunnel policy to IPv6 labeled routes. Then, IPv6 labeled routes will be able to be iterated
to these tunnels. If the MPLS LSPs, MPLS TE tunnels, and GRE tunnels are all unavailable, the PE
uses MPLS Local IFNET tunnels.
