9.14 Configuring Inter-AS 6PE

Inter-AS IPv6 Provider Edge (6PE) allows you to connect separate IPv6 networks that connect
to different ASs over IPv4 tunnels, so that these IPv6 networks can communicate.
9.14.1 Before You Start
Before configuring inter-AS IPv6 Provider Edge (6PE), familiarize yourself with the usage
scenario, complete the pre-configuration tasks, and obtain the required data.
Applicable Environment
6PE interconnects separate IPv6 networks at different locations using MPLS tunnels on an
existing IPv4 network. Separate IPv6 networks can be connected using multiple tunneling
techniques. 6PE implements IPv4/IPv6 dual stack on service provider PEs and uses MP-BGP
to assign labels to IPv6 routes, enabling IPv6 networks to communicate over tunnels between
PEs.
In practical application, different metropolitan area networks (MANs) of a service provider or
collaborative backbone networks of different service providers often span multiple ASs. If
separate IPv6 networks connect to different ASs, deploy inter-AS 6PE for the IPv6 networks to
communicate.
Pre-configuration Tasks
Before configuring inter-AS 6PE, complete the following tasks:
