Inspection
1. Check each piston for distortion or cracks.
2. Measure the piston diameter at distance A from the
bottom of the skirt.
A: '97 - 98 models 15 mm 10.6 in)
'99 - 00 models 20 mm 10.8 in)
Piston Diameter:
Standard INew): 83.980 - 83.990 mm

Service Limit: 83.970 mm 13.3059 in)

3, Calculate the difference between the cylinder bore
diameter (see page 7-13) and the piston diameter.
Piston-to-Cylinder Clearance:
Standard INew!: 0.010 - 0.040 mm
10.0004 - 0.0016 in!
Service Limit: 0.05 mm 10.002 in!
SERVICE LIMIT

If the clearance is near or exceeds th e service limit,
inspect the piston and cyli nder block for excessive
wear.
