8-12 Section 060-INDP-711 DMS-100 Switch Specific Data
Each maintenance terminal has its own buffer, to allow command strings to be
entered independently of the activity at the other terminals. The echoing of
input characters is directed to the terminal from which they came. Output
messages are directed to all maintenance terminals.
During periods of heavy message traffic (that is, long reports such as the error
map or directory listing) all maintenance terminals slow to the speed of the
slowest maintenance printer on the system. The slow condition is normal and
the faster terminals resume full speed as the traffic subsides. Excess capacity
has been reserved so that log messages and alarm messages are not lost
during this period.
Connecting Maintenance Terminals to BMC
The BMC provides facilities for the connection of up to three maintenance
terminals. At least one must be used. The customer is responsible for
providing the maintenance terminals. Nortel provides an NT8M99AB cable
for DTE connection to one maintenance terminal. The NT8M99AB cable has
a DB25P (male) connector at the BMC end of the cable. The connector for
the maintenance terminal end is dependent on the type of maintenance
terminal selected by the customer.
The DB25P connectors on the Maintenance Terminal Interface Cables are
connected to the Data and Peripheral Connector Panel on the left side of the
BMC chassis, as follows:
The second and third interfaces (J3 and J1) may be job engineered to support
remote maintenance terminals by using NT8M99AG modem cables,
customer-supplied RS232C modems, and maintenance terminals.
BMC-DMS-100 Interface Testing
With the maintenance terminal interface(s) made, the maintenance terminal is
now used to test the integrity of the equipment and the interface connection.
Verify that the DMS-100 can generate AMA data to both tape ports. Verify
that the maintenance terminal and the BMC can properly communicate with
each other.
Functional Testing of Maintenance Terminal Communications
Start the functional testing procedure with the BMC rocker switches set to the
A PRIME mode. Enter on any maintenance terminal the SETCLK command:
>SETCLK 97 07 10 13 25 00 TUE (cr)
297-6201-502 Standard 01.02 September 2000
first printer interface cable to J4, A chassis
second printer interface cable to J3, A chassis
third printer interface cable to J1, A chassis.
