Connectors are provided on the rear of the Interface Boxes for connecting the
existing cables from the DMS-10 magnetic tape ports, and for connecting the
60-conductor ribbon cables (supplied) to the BMC. The Interface Boxes are
metal, and are furnished with mounting brackets and hardware.
NT3T11 Power Cables
The Interface Boxes require connection of +12 V dc from the BMC chassis
(J17) to power the NT3T11 circuit packs. Two red and black wire assemblies,
Nortel part No. NT8M99AA, are furnished with the BMC equipment for this
purpose. Refer to Figure 7-2.
Data Interface Ribbon Cables
Two 60-pin ribbon cable assemblies are furnished with the BMC equipment
for connecting the DMS-10 signals from the Interface Boxes to the inputs on
the BMC chassis. Refer to Figure 7-3.
Each ribbon cable is equipped with two connectors. The cables are identified
on these connectors by labels which indicate the cable wire assembly and the
plug numbers, that is, W63 for part No. NT6M99AJ, or, W65 for part No.
NT6M99AH. These numbers are used to locate the jacks on the equipment to
which these plugs mate, as covered later in these instructions.
NT3T11 Interface Box Installation Information
The two Interface Boxes included with the equipment are used to contain the
NT3T11 PCAs that provide the TEC interface between the DMS-10 tape
ports and the inputs to the BMC chassis. An NT3T11 PCA consists of a PCA
with mounted components, plus connectors located along one edge.
The Interface Box consists of a metal box enclosing the brackets, connectors,
and wire harnesses for mounting and connecting the NT3T11 PCAs to the
connectors located on the rear panel of the box.
Installing NT3T11 PCAs in Interface Boxes (if required)
The NT3T11 PCAs may not be supplied pre-installed if the BMC is not
purchased at the same time as the DMS-10 Switching System. When
possible, NT3T11 PCAs are pre-installed into the enclosures at the factory
and the Interface Boxes are ready to be installed when received.
However, in some cases the NT3T11 PCAs must be installed into the
enclosures at the site. For this situation, the installer obtains the two NT3T11
PCAs from Nortel and installs them into the furnished Interface Box
enclosures, according to the following procedure:
