Removing the Rear Fan Trays

The rear fan trays are mounted vertically on the rear of the chassis. The rear fan trays
contains nine fans. Each rear fan tray weighs about 14.4 lb (6.5 kg).
To remove the rear fan trays (see Figure 53 on page 132):
Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect

the strap to an approved site ESD grounding point.
Loosen the captive screw on the bottom of the fan tray faceplate.

Grasp the handles and pull the fan tray until it stops (approximately 1.5 in.).
3.
Press the latch on top of the fan tray, and pull the fan tray halfway out of the chassis.
4.
Place one hand under the fan tray to support it, and pull the fan tray completely out

of the chassis.
CAUTION: This procedure assumes that router is powered off. Do not remove
all four rear fan trays from a router that is powered on.
