Cisco CMTS Show Commands
Overview of the Operation of the Cable Show Commands
Overview of the Operation of the Cable Show Commands
The show cable commands display the most current information for standard cable interface line cards,
such as the Cisco uBR-MC16C, Cisco uBR-MC16S, and Cisco uBR-MC28C cards. If the card itself is
down, the show cable commands still show whatever information is appropriate (such as offline cable
modems and flap list information).
Many of the show cable commands, though, function slightly differently when used on routers that are
using Broadband Processing Engine (BPE) cable interface line cards (such as the Cisco uBR-MC16U/X,
Cisco uBR-MC28U/X, or Cisco uBR-MC5X20S/U). When BPE cards are the only cable interface cards
installed, these show cable commands do not display any output until at least one BPE card is up and
communicating with the router processor. If the BPE cards are not yet up, these commands (such as the
show cable modem command) do not display any output, or might display one of the following error
messages:
%No information is available, please try later
%No response from slot 6/1. Command aborted
If this occurs, wait a minute or so and retry the command.
The above errors can also occur when the cable interface line cards are not able to respond to the
command, or do not have any information yet about the cable modems that are online the router.
Typically, this is because another process or subsystem on the Cisco CMTS router is accessing the
router's internal databases.
The most often reason this occurs is because the router has been configured for Hot Standby Connection-
to-Connection Protocol (HCCP) redundancy, and the router is busy synchronizing the internal
configuration databases. If you see one of these error messages, wait a few seconds and repeat the
command.
