Replacing a piston seal requires these tools and materials:
Tools
3 mm hex wrench
Piston seal tool
#2 Phillips head screwdriver
Removing a Used Piston Seal
1. Set the pump piston to the fully retracted position as
follows:
a. On the touch screen, press Maintenance > Scripts.
b. In the Category list, select Prepare.
c. In the Name list, select Purge Solvent.
d. Press the Parameters tab.
e. Press Purge Iterations and enter 0.

Select the check box for the appropriate pump.
Parts and materials
Pipette
Powder-free safety gloves
UHPLC/MS-grade methanol
UHPLC/MS-grade
acetonitrile
Piston seal, P/N LC510
Pump-to-pressure sensor flow
line for an EASY-nLC 1200
instrument, 6040.2360
g. Press Start.
The piston moves downward to the 140 µL position.
2. Exit the EASY-nLC 1200 system and turn off the power.
3. Using a #2 Phillips head screwdriver, make a quarter-turn
to loosen the three captive screws that secure the right side
panel to the instrument. Then remove the panel.
CAUTION Wear powder-free gloves when
handling the wetted components of the LC
system.
4. Remove the used piston seal as follows:
a. Remove the stainless steel Viper solvent lines
connected to the pump head. It is also recommended
to disconnect the tubing from the pressure sensor.
This prevents damage, because it does not have to be
bent out of the way.

b. Using a 3 mm hex wrench, remove the two screws that
secure the pump head to the pump body.
