To clean the nebulizer (blockage)
Corrosive Acid. When handling corrosive acids such as aqua regia,
take the following precautions:
• Wear protective clothes.
• Always use acid resistant laboratory gloves and glasses.
• Make yourself aware of all safety procedures in case of spillage or
exposure to the skin or eyes before commencing the cleaning.
• The acid cleaning of the glassware should take place in a fume hood.
Follow the local health and safety procedures.
1. If the nozzle is coated with crystalline deposits, soaking in dilute
nitric acid should be sufficient
2. If it is still blocked, flush the nebulizer with a 3–5% solution of aqua
regia.
3. Rinse the nebulizer thoroughly in clean deionized water.
To insert the nebulizer
1. Carefully insert the nebulizer in the spray chamber.
2. Turn it clockwise to secure it.
3. Connect the nebulizer gas tubing.
The condition of the peristaltic pump tubing can affect the stability of
the ion beam. Therefore, the peristaltic pump tubing should be replaced
regularly.
To maintain the peristaltic pump
1. Make sure the peristaltic pump is not running.
CAUTION
Pinch Point Hazard. Danger of injuries. Keep hands clear from the
peristaltic pump during operation.
2. Wipe the surface of the peristaltic pump rollers and tension arms
with a dry cloth to remove any dust.
