4. Test for less than 5 ohms between the low reference
circuit terminal E and ground.
➢ If greater than 5 ohms, test the low reference circuit
for an open/high resistance, or for a short to
voltage. If the circuit/connections test normal,
replace the ECM.
5. Install the fuse that supplies B+ to circuit terminal
C2-56 of the ECM.
NOTE
If the fuse in the jumper wire opens, the
signal circuit is shorted to a voltage and the
sensor may be damaged.
6. Ignition ON, install a 3A fused jumper wire between
the signal circuit terminal D and ground circuit
terminal C. Verify the IAT sensor parameter is
greater than 134°C (274°F).
➢ If less than the specified value, test the signal
circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high
resistance. If the circuit/connections test normal,
replace the ECM.
7. If all circuits/connections test normal, test or replace
the MAF/IAT sensor.

Diagnostic Instructions
• Perform the "Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle Diagnostic Information: " prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
• Review "Strategy Based Diagnosis: " for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
• "Diagnostic Procedure Instructions - Vehicle Diagnostic Information: " provides an overview of each diagnostic
category.

Engine General Information and Diagnosis:
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector of
the IAT sensor.
NOTE
A thermometer can be used to test the
sensor off the vehicle.
2. Test the IAT sensor by varying the sensor
temperature while monitoring the sensor resistance.
Compare the readings with the "Temperature Versus
Resistance - Intake Air Temperature Sensor" table
and verify that the resistance is within 5 percent of
the specification.
➢ If the Resistance vs Temperature is not within 5
percent, replace the IAT sensor.
Repair Instructions
Perform the "Diagnostic Repair Verification - Vehicle
Diagnostic Information: " after completing the diagnostic
procedure.
• "Mass Airflow Sensor/Intake Air Temperature Sensor
Replacement: "
• "Control Module References: " for engine control
module replacement, setup, and programming
