Remove spring.
Installation
1.
Properly position spring on the con tro l arm , and lift
control arm .
2.
Position control arm cross-shaft to crossm em ber and
install " U" bolts and attaching nuts. Make certain front
indexing hole in cross-shaft is lined up w ith crossm em ber
attaching saddle stud.
3.
T orque n u t to specifications.
4.
Install shock absorber to low er con tro l arm and install
stabilizer bar if so equipped.
5.
Remove tool.

. Low er vehicle to floor.

LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY

C A U T IO N :
A ll control arm attachments are im ­
portant attaching parts in th at they could affect the
performance o f vital components and systems, and/
or could result in major repair expense. They must
be replaced w ith parts o f the same part numbers or
w ith equivalent parts if replacement becomes neces­
sary. Do not use replacement parts of lesser quality
or substitute design. Torque values must be used as
specified during reassembly to assure proper re­
tention of these parts.
Removal
1. Place vehicle on hoist and remove spring as outlined
under spring removal.
2.
Remove c o tte r pin from low er ball stu d and loosen stud
n u t until to p o f n u t is slightly above to p o f the stud.
3.
Install Ball Stud Rem over J-23742, position — large
cup end o f the tool over the upper ball stud n u t and
piloting th e threaded end o f to ol on end o f the low er ball
stud. E xtend bolt from T ool J-23742 to loosen low er ball
stud in steering knuckle. When stud is loosened, remove
tool and n u t from low er stud.
4.
Remove control arm.

Installation
1. Install lower ball stud through steering knuckle and
tighten nut.
2.
Install spring an d control arm as outlined u nder spring
installation.
3.
Torque low er co ntro l arm ball stud to specifications and
install new co tter pin.
4.
Low er vehicle to floor.

UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY

A ll control arm attachments are im ­

Removal
1. Place vehicle o n hoist, remove wheel and tire assembly
an d support low er co ntro l arm assembly w ith adjustable
jackstand.
2.
Remove c o tte r pin from upper control arm ball stud and
loosen stud n u t one turn.
3.
Loosen upper con tro l arm ball stud in steering knuckle,
using T o o l - 237 42 position as show n in Figure 10.
Remove th e n u t from th e ball stud and raise u pper arm
to clear steering knuckle.
4.
Remove n u ts securing co n tro l arm shaft to fram e. With­
draw control arm assembly.
