FRO NT SUSPENSION 3-6
N O T E : Be sure bearing parts have been thoroughly
cleaned and air-dried.
Wheel Stud Replacem ent (Fig. 6)
N O T E :
Use a piece of water pipe or other similar
tool to support the hub while pressing a wheel stud
either in or out.
Installation
1.
Pack inner and outer wheel bearings w ith recom m ended
grease (see Section 0 ) .
2.
Place inner bearing in hub and install new seal assembly,
tapping in to place w ith soft ham m er.
3.
P osition hub and disc on spindle and install outer
bearing, pressing it firm ly in to position in hub.
4.
Install hub w asher, n u t and co tter pin.
5.
Install brake caliper and wheel and tire.

Removal
1.
Rem ove nuts and eye bolts securing upper and lower
shock absorber eyes.
2.
W ithdraw shock absorber an d inspect rubber eye bush­
ings. If defective, replace shock absorber assembly.
Installation
Place shock absorber in to position in m ounting brackets.
Install eye bolts and nu ts and torque as show n in Specifica­
tions Section.

COIL SPRING SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY

C A U T IO N :
A ll fro n t suspension attachments are
im portant attaching parts in th at they could affect
the performance o f vital components and systems,
and/or could result in major repair expense. They
must be replaced
w ith
numbers or w ith equivalent parts if replacement
as
outlined
under
Wheel
parts of the same part
becomes necessary. Do not use replacement parts of
lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values
must be used as specified during reassembly to
assure proper retention o f these parts.

Front Stabilizer Bar

Removal
1.
Place vehicle on hoist and remove n u ts and bolts a ttac h ­
ing stabilizer brackets and bushings at fram e location.
2.
Remove brackets an d bushings at lower co n tro l arms and
remove stabilizer from vehicle.
Inspection
Inspect rubber bushings for excessive wear or aging— replace
where necessary. Use rubber lubricant w hen installing bushings
over stabilizer bar.
Installation
1.
Place stabilizer in position on fram e and install fram e
brackets over bushings. Install nuts an d bolts loosely.
2.
Install brackets over bushings at low er co n tro l arm
location. Be sure brackets are positioned properly over
bushings. Tighten all n u ts and bolts securely.
3. Low er vehicle to floor.

Removal
1.
Place vehicle on hoist and place jack stands u nder frame,
allowing co n tro l arms to hang free.
2.
D isconnect shock absorber at low er end.
3.
Bolt Tool J-23028 to a suitable jack.
4.
Place to o l u n d er cross-shaft so th a t the cross-shaft seats
in the grooves o f th e tool. As a safety precaution install a
chain th ro u g h the spring and low er co n tro l arm.
5.
Raise the ja ck to remove tension on the low er control
arm cross-shaft and remove th e tw o " U " bolts securing
the cross-shaft to crossm em ber.
6
. Lower control arm b y slowly releasing the jack until
spring can be removed.
