CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
Removal From Vehicle
Before removing clutch from flyw heel, m ark w ith a punch
the flyw heel, clutch cover and one pressure plate lug. so th at
these parts may be assembled in their same relative positions,
as they were balanced as an assembly. Loosen the holding
screws a tu rn or tw o at a tim e to avoid bending rim of cover.
When removing driven plate be sure to m ark flywheel side.
N O T E :
It is advantageous to place wood or metal
spacers

TRANSMISSION LINKAG E ADJUSTMENT
Column Shift (Fig. 8)
In cases where gearshift linkage has been disconnected or
rem oved, proper adjustm ent sequence is im po rtan t.
1. Install co n tro l rods to b o th second and third shifter lever
and first and reverse shifter lever. Set b o th shifter levers
in neutral position.
2.
Align b o th shifter tu be levers on m ast jack et in the
n eutral position. Install 3 /1 6 " pin in holes o f levers to
ho ld levers in alignm ent. Position relay levers so th a t
gearshift co n tro l lever is in neutral position.
3. C onnect control rods to tu be levers making sure clamps
are properly adjusted so th a t tube levers and transm ission
shifter levers rem ain in their neutral positions while
tightening.
4.
Rem ove gauge and move selector lever thro u g h all
positions to check adjustm ent in all positions.
N O T E :
If mast jacket lower dash clamp has been
disturbed at its mounting on dash, its adjustment to
the steering mainshaft should be checked as outlined
in the procedure in Section 9 of this manual.
TRANSM ISSION REPLACEMENT
Removal
1. Raise vehicle on hoist and drain lubricant from transm is­
sion.
2. D isconnect backing lamp sw itch, speedom eter cable and
" T.C .S." sw itch at transm ission.

removed from engine.
Installation To Vehicle
1. Assemble driven plate and clutch cover assembly to
flywheel in accordance w ith marking on driven plate for
flywheel side.
2. Line up the driven plate assembly and the pilot bearing
w ith a dum m y shaft before tightening cover holding
screws. Tighten holding screws before removing dum m y
shaft.
3. After transm ission has been assembled, adjust pedal as
described under "C lutch Pedal A djustm ents."

3. Remove shift lever bolts and shift levers from tran s­
mission side cover.
4. Disconnect propeller shaft from transm ission as described
in Section 4 o f this manual.
5. Position a suitable dolly or jack under the vehicle and
adjust to carry weight of transm ission.

S upport engine w ith an adjustable stand at the bell
housing and remove engine rear m o u n t to transm ission
attaching parts.
7. Remove crossm em ber attaching bolts and crossm em ber
from vehicle.
N O T E :
Visually
equipm ent, lines or brackets must be removed to
perm it removal of transmission.

. Remove flywheel housing m ounting bolts. Remove upper
bolts first and install guide pins J-l 126.
9. Move the transm ission assembly rearw ard using care to
keep transm ission main drive gear shift in alignm ent w ith
clutch disc hub. When u n it is clear o f housing, remove
transm ission from under vehicle.
C A U T IO N :
Do not allow weight o f transmission
to hang on the clutch disc hub, as the disc will
become distorted seriously affecting clutch opera­
tion.
10. A careful check o f clutch com ponents should be made
after the transm ission has been rem oved. If repair is
necessary, refer to C lutches, Section 7 o f the Chassis
Service and Overhaul Manuals.
