Windshield Wipers

Windshield wiper units on all m odels are o f the two-speed
electric type. A single wiper m o to r unit, m ounted to dash
panel at top and to left o f engine cover inside cab, pow er bo th
w iper blades. The w iper blade operating link rods and pivot
m ountings on these m odels are located in the outside air inlet
plenum cham ber.

Arm Adjustment

T o adjust sweep o f blades turn on wipers, then note sweep
o f arms. I f necessary, remove one or b o th arms as follows: Pull
o u ter end o f arm away from glass w hich will trip lock spring at
base o f arm and release spring from u n dercut o f pivot shaft.
While holding arm in this position, pull outw ard on cap section
at base o f arm to remove arm. Arm can be reinstalled in any
one o f several positions due to serrations on pivot shaft and in
arm cap.
Wiper Arm Pivot Shafts and Link Rod (Fig. 2)
Removal
1. Remove w indshield w iper arms from pivot shafts. P ro­
cedure for rem oving arm s is explained previously u nder
" A rm A djustm ents."
2. Remove screws w hich attach outside air cowl ventilator
grille to cowl. C arefully remove grille from cowl.
3. A t center o f cowl, remove tw o attaching nuts w hich
attaches link rod to m o to r drive. Disengage link rods
from pins.
4. Rem ove screws w hich attach each arm transm ission pivot
shaft assembly to cowl. Remove pivot shaft assembly
w ith link rod from plenum cham ber.
Installation
1. Place pivot shaft assembly w ith link rod into position at
cowl bracket. Secure assembly to bracket w ith two
screws.

COMPONENT PART REPLACEMENT

2. A ttach end o f link rod to m o to r drive and arm . Secure
rod w ith the tw o attaching nuts.
3. Install outside air cowl ventilator grille to top o f cowl.
4. Before
installing
wiper arms, operate
m om entarily w hich should rotate pivot shafts to park
position. Install arms.

Windshield Glass

The w indshield is a one-piece type and is retained in the
w indshield opening by a m oulded rubber w eatherstrip. This
w eatherstrip is sealed in the windshield opening and sealed to
the w indshield glass.
When replacing a cracked w indshield glass, it is very im­
p o rtan t th at the cause o f the glass breakage be determ ined and
the condition corrected before a new glass is installed. O ther­
wise, it is highly possible th a t a small o b structio n or high spot
som ew here around the w indshield opening will continue to
crack or break the new ly installed w indshield especially w hen
the strain on the glass caused by this o b stru ctio n is increased
by such conditions as w ind pressures, extrem es o f tem pera­
ture, m otion o f the vehicle, etc.
The procedure for removal o f the w indshield applies to the
com plete w indshield assembly.
Removal
1. Before removing the w indshield, m ark the location o f the
break on the w indshield rubber channel and the body.
P ro tect the paint finish inside o f the cab. Mask around
the w indshield opening and outside, lay a suitable cover­
ing across the h o o d and fenders.
N O T E :
The windshield glass rubber weatherstrip is
one piece. The glass is held in a channel w ith in the
weatherstrip (fig. 3).
2. Do n o t try to remove reveal mouldings while windshield
is in body opening. Remove from custom w eatherstrip
