be burned. The "Closed Positive" ventilation system draws
clean air from the carbureto r air cleaner and has a nonvented
oil filter cap.
1.
V entilation valve should be replaced at intervals specified
in Section O.
2.
Inspect for deteriorated or plugged hoses.
3.
Inspect all hose connections.
4.
Rem ove flam e arrestor and w ash in solvent, then dry
w ith com pressed air.
5.
Inspect
ventilation
filter
necessary.
SERVICE A IR INJECTION REACTOR SYSTEM
Inspect air injection reactor system for evidence o f leaks,
deterio rated hoses, cracked air m anifolds or tubes and loose
hose clam ps. Inspect air injection pum p belt condition and
tension. Make all necessary repairs as outlined in "Section
6
T ."
Because o f the relationship betw een " Engine Tune U p" and
" U nburned E xhaust Gases," the con d itio n o f Engine Tune Up
should be checked w henever the Air Injection R eactor System
seems to be m alfunctioning. Particular care should be taken in
checking item s th a t affect fuel-air ratio such as the crankcase

C onnect vacuum gauge, dwell m eter, tachom eter and tim ing
light as recom m ended by th e m anufacturer o f the equipm ent
being used.

CHECK AND ADJUST DWELL

1. S tart engine then check ignition dwell.
2.
I f dwell is n o t w ithin specifications, adjust dwell
follows:
V8 Engines
With engine running at idle, raise the adjustm ent
screw w indow and insert an Allen w rench in the
socket o f th e adjusting screw (Fig. 15).
Turn the adjusting screw as required until the
specified dwell reading is obtained.
Close access cover fully to prevent the en try o f dirt
into the distributor.

cleaner. Carburetors and distributors for engines w ith th e Air
Injection Reactor System and Controlled C om bustion System
are designed, particularly, for these engines; therefore, they
m ust n ot be interchanged w ith or replaced by a carburetor or
distributor designed for different applications.

CHOKE ADJUSTMENT

Inspect choke valve, choke rod, choke coil and housing for
proper alignm ent, bends and binding — make necessary cor­
rections to assure proper choke o peration; then adjust choke
