and check the specifications for th a t dim ension.

subtracting shims from th e fro n t or rear b o lt on the
upper control arm shaft.

C A U T IO N :
This hub to
im portant attaching part in th at it could affect the
performance
of
vital
and/or could result in major repair expense. It must
be replaced w ith one o f the same part number or
w ith an equivalent part if replacement becomes
necessary. Do not use a replacement part o f lesser
quality or substitute design. Torque values must be
used as specified during reassembly to assure proper
retention of this part.
WHEEL HUBS & BEARINGS
Removal
1.
Raise vehicle on hoist and remove wheel and tire as­
sem bly. Remove dust cap from end o f hub and w ithdraw
co tter pin.
2.
Remove the brake caliper and hang by a wire to the
suspension.
3.
Remove hub and disc assembly.
4.
Remove outer bearing from h u b . The inner bearing will
rem ain in the hub and m ay be rem oved by prying o u t the
inner grease seal.
5.
Wash all parts in cleaning solvent.
Inspection
1.
Check all bearings for cracked bearing cages, w orn or
p itted rollers.
2.
Check bearing races for cracks or scoring, check brake
discs for out-of-round or scored condition and check
bearing outer races for looseness in hubs.

on o peration and handling. Settings outside these lim its are
not necessarily unsafe; however, custom er dissatisfaction, due
to steering pull or tire wear m ay occur or the vehicle may be in
a dam aged condition.
Definitions
Service Checking
Values w ithin these lim its should provide a high level o f
custom er satisfaction and should n o t require resetting.
Service Reset
Values th a t the vehicle should be set w ithin if it is observed
out o f the service checking tolerance, or if it is being aligned
due to replacem ent o f com ponents, or for any other reasons.

Repairs
Replacement o f Bearing Cups
If necessary to replace an ou ter race, drive o u t old race
from the hub w ith a brass d rift inserted behind race in notches
in h u b . Install new race by driving it in to h u b w ith th e proper
race installer. Remove the inner race in the same m anner.
C A U T IO N : Use care when installing new race to
start it squarely into hub, to avoid distortion and
possible cracking.
Thoroughly lubricate bearing assemblies w ith new high
m elting p o in t wheel-bearing lubricant. Remove any excess
lubricant.
