torque to specifications.
Engine Mounts
Engine m ounts are th e non-adjustable typ e and seldom
require service. Broken or deteriorated m ounts should be
replaced im m ediately, because o f th e added strain placed on
other m ounts and drive line com ponents.
Checking Engine Mounts
Front Mount
Raise the engine to remove w eight from the m o un ts and to
place a slight tension in th e rubber. Observe b o th m ounts
while raising engine. If an engine m o un t exhibits:
a. H ard rubb er surface covered w ith h eat check cracks;
b. R ubber separated from a m etal plate o f the m o u n t;
or
c. R ubber split through center.
Replace the m oun t. I f there is relative m ovem ent betw een a
m etal plate o f th e m o u nt and its attaching points, low er the
engine on th e m ounts and tighten th e screws or nuts attaching
th e m ount to the engine, fram e, or bracket.
Rear Mount
Raise the car on a h oist. Push up an d pull dow n on the
transm ission tailshaft while observing the transm ission m ount.
I f the rubber separates from th e m etal plate o f th e m o un t or if
the tailshaft moves up b u t n o t dow n (m o u n t b o tto m ed o u t)
replace th e m o u n t. If there is relative m ovem ent betw een a
m etal plate o f th e m o u n t and its attaching p o in t, tighten the
screws or nuts attachin g th e m o un t to th e transm ission or
crossm em ber.
Front Mount Replacement (Fig. 26V)
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. On m anual transm ission equipped vehicles.
a. D isconnect clutch rod at o u tb o ard lever on clutch
cross shaft.
b. Remove the tw o bolts securing clutch cross shaft
bracket to fram e side rail, and position clutch
linkage away from engine m ount.
3. Rem ove m ount-to-bracket through-bolt.

4. Raise engine sufficiently to clear m o u n t. Remove bolts
securing m ou nt to fram e bracket.
5. Install new m ount to frame bracket, and torque bolts to
specifications.

. Low er engine to align m ount w ith engine bracket. Install
through b o lt and to rq u e to specifications.
7. On m anual transm ission equipped vehicles.
a. Position clutch cross shaft betw een fram e side rail
and ball stud on engine bracket. Install and torque
fram e bolts.
b. C onnect clutch rod at o u tb oard lever on clutch
cross shaft.

. Low er vehicle on h oist and check operation o f clutch.
