O IL AND FILTER RECOMMENDATIONS
The le tte r designation " SE " has been established to corre
spond w ith the requirem ents o f GM 6 0 4 1-M as revised. " SE"
engine oils will be b etter q uality and perform b etter than those
identified w ith " SA" through " SD" designations and are
recom m ended for all Chevrolet light-duty gasoline trucks
regardless o f m odel year and previous engine oil quality
recom m endations.
O IL CHANGE PERIOD
• Use only SE engine oil (SE oils m eet quality standard
GM 6 0 4 1-M).
• Change oil each 4 m onths or 6,000 miles. I f m ore than
6,000 miles are driven in a 4-m onth period, change oil
each 6,000 miles.
• Change oil each 2 m onths or 3,000 miles, whichever
occurs first, under the following conditions:
—driving in dusty conditions
—trailer pulling
— extensive idling
— S hort-trip operation at freezing tem peratures (engine
n o t thoroughly warm ed-up).
• O peration in dust storm s m ay require an im m ediate oil
change.

periods. Sustained heavy d u ty and high speed operation or
and
operation under adverse conditions may require m ore frequent
servicing.
• Replace the oil filter a t th e first oil change, and every
second oil change thereafter. AC oil filters provide
m axim um engine p rotection.
The above recom m endations apply to the first change as
well as subsequent oil changes. The oil change interval for the
Chevrolet engine is based on the use o f SE oils and quality oil
filters. Oil change intervals longer than those listed above will
seriously reduce engine life and may affect C hevrolet's obliga
tio n under th e provisions o f the New Vehicle W arranty.
A high quality SE oil was installed in the engine at the
factory. It is n o t necessary to change this factory-installed oil
prior to the recom m ended norm al change period. However,
check the oil level m ore frequently during the break-in period
since higher oil consum ption is norm al until the piston rings
becom e sealed.
N O T E :
Non-detergent and other low quality oils
are specifically not recommended.
