FUEL LINE SERVICE (FIG . 5)
The fuel lines should be inspected occasionally for leaks,
kinks or dents. If evidence o f dirt is found in the carburetor,
fuel pum p or on a disassembly, the lines should be dis-
connected and blow n o u t. Check the fuel strainer in the tank
for damage.

The C om ponents o f this S ystem are:
FUEL TA N K FILLE R NECK GAS CAP
The fuel tan k filler cap has a new tw o-step rem oval and
installation procedure plus a pressure-vacuum relief valve.
It is equipped w ith a double set o f locking tangs. To
rem ove:
R o tate cap one-half tu rn counterclockw ise to clear the
first set o f tangs fro m the slots inside the filler neck.
This will allow any residual pressure to escape.
Pull the
cap outw ard and ro tate one-quarter turn
counterclockw ise to clear second set o f tangs. Then
remove the cap.
To install, reverse this procedure.
N O T E :
If this cap requires a replacement, only a
cap w ith these same features should be used. Failure
to
use the
correct cap can result in a serious
m alfunction
o f the system. Correct replacement
caps may be obtained fro m your Chevrolet dealer.
GASOLINE TANK
The gasoline tanks incorporate special extended filler necks
and vents and also external hose connections.

SERVICE INFORMATION
Evaporation Control System Fuel & Vapor Lines—
vapor lines and hoses m ust be in good condition w ith no signs
o f leakage. A ny dam aged or deterio rated lines or hoses m ust
be
replaced.
All
lines should be inspected

parts as necessary.

24,000 miles or 24 m o n th s (whichever occurs first) in lower
section o f canister.
When replacing a m etal fuel line, only seamless steel tubing
is to be used. Also, the ends o f th e tubing w hich join at a
connector, m ust be double-flared using com m ercially available
double flaring tools. All fuel lines m ust be properly ro u ted and
retained.

The separator m ounts to th e right or left h and side o f the
gasoline tank. I f service is necessary, the entire assembly m ust
be replaced.
CANISTER
The canister is m ou n ted on th e left side o f the engine
com partm ent. A filter is m o u n ted in the b o tto m o f the
canister. It is to be replaced according to the recom m ended
m aintenance
schedule n oted above and in the Emission
C ontrol System s Booklet.
HOSES (KEEP RESTRICTOR CLEAN)
When replacing any evaporative emission hose, use only
replacem ent hose m arked " EVAP." No o th er ty p e o f hose is
to be used. A restrictor located inside the vapor vent hose,
adjacent to the canister should be replaced w henever the hose
is replaced. The restrictor should be checked and n o t plugged
w ith dirt.
