COMPRESSOR OIL
Special refrigeration lubricant should be used in the system .
This oil is as free from m oisture and contam inants as it is
possible to attain by h um an processes. This condition should
be preserved by im m ediately capping the b ottle w hen n o t in
use.
See " Air C onditioning System Capacities" for the total
system oil capacity.
P R E-D ELIVER Y INSPECTION
1. C heck th a t engine exhaust is suitably ventilated.
2. C heck the belt for proper tension.
3.
W ith controls positioned for operation o f the system ,
operate the unit for ten m inutes at approxim ately 2000
rpm . Observe the clutch pulley b o lt to see th a t the
com pressor is operating at the same speed as th e clutch
pulley. A ny speed variation indicates clutch slippage.
4.
Before turning o ff the engine, check the sight glass to see
th a t the u n it has a sufficient Refrigerant charge. The glass
should be clear, although during m ilder w eather it m ay
show traces o f bubbles. F oam in the flow indicates a low
charge. No liquid visible and n o tem perature differential
betw een com pressor inlet and o u tlet lines, indicates no
charge.
5.

I f there is evidence o f an oil leak, check th e com pressor
to see th a t th e oil charge is satisfactory.

Due to the porosity o f the refrigerant hoses and connec
tions, the system refrigerant level will show a definite drop
after a period o f tim e. Since th e com pressor oil is carried
th ro u gh ou t the entire system m ixed w ith the refrigerant, a low
refrigerant level will cause a dangerous lack o f lubrication.
T herefore the refrigerant charge in the system has a definite
tie-in w ith the am ount o f oil fo u nd in the com pressor and an
insufficient charge may eventually lead to an oil build-up in
the evaporator.
COMPRESSOR SERIAL NUMBER
The com pressor serial num ber is located on the serial
num ber plate on top o f the com pressor. The serial num ber
consists o f a series o f num bers and letters. This serial num ber
should be referenced on all form s and correspondence related
to the servicing o f this part.

PERIODIC SERVICE

6000 M ILE INSPECTION
1. Check u n it fo r any indication o f a refrigerant leak.
2.
I f there is an indication o f an oil leak, check the
com pressor for proper oil charge.
N O T E :
A
slight am ount o f oil leakage at the
compressor fro n t seal is considered normal.
3. C heck sight glass for proper charge o f Refrigerant-12.
4.
Tighten th e com pressor brace and sup p ort bolts and
check the b elt tension.
5. Check refrigerant hose connections as in Step 5 o f
" Pre-Delivery Inspection."
PERIODIC SERVICE
• Inspect condenser regularly to be sure th a t the fins are
n o t plugged w ith leaves or o th e r foreign m aterial.
• Check evaporator drain tubes regularly for dirt or
restrictions.
• A t least once a year, check the system for proper
refrigerant charge and the flexible hoses for brittleness,
w ear or leaks.
• Every 6000 miles check sight glass for low refrigerant
level.
• C heck belt tension regularly.
