Installation
1. Install latch assembly into do or by w orking latch assem­
bly behind the lower hinge door catch.
2. Connect low er hinge door catch, lock cylinder rod, door
lock rod, and b o th rear latch rods.
3. Install latch assem bly-to-door attaching screws. T orque to
specifications.
4. Install door lock knob and door handle.
5. Install access cover and trim panel.
6. A djust door front striker as outlined under " D oor A djust­
m ents" .

Rear Latch and/or Latch Actuating Rods

Removal
1. Remove trim panel (if so equipped).
2. Remove fro n t latch assembly access cover.
3. D isconnect rear latch rods from front latch assembly
(Fig. 22).
4. Rem ove rear latch attaching screws. (Fig. 24)
5. Slide rear latch tow ard fro n t o f door un til rod clips
becom e exposed. D isconnect rod clips and remove latch
from door.
Installation
1. C onnect rods to latch and install latch to door. T orque
screws to specifications.
2. C onnect rods to fro n t latch assembly.
3. Install access covers and trim panels (if so equipped).
4. A djust

Upper Left Hinge

Removal
1. T urn door handle and let door pop open.
2. Disengage spring from b o lt using a com m ercially available
spring removal too l; such as, a brake spring removal tool.
3. Close door.

Disassembly (Fig. 25)
1. Remove rod connecting hinge and roller assembly.
2. Remove roller.
3. Remove levers—noting position o f the springs.
4.
Remove nylon block.
5. Remove bushings by tapping o ut w ith a drift.
6. Reverse Steps 1-5 to reassembly. Torque all parts to
specifications.
7. When holding hinge assembly as in Fig. 26, the lower
latch m ust engage cam.
Installation
1. Install hinge assembly to door. Torque bolts to specifica­
tions.
2. Check and adjust latch to striker position as outlined
under " Door A djustm ents" .
3. T urn handle and let door pop open.
4. C onnect spring using a brake spring removal tool or a
similar tool.
5. Check operation o f door hinge.

Door Strikers

N O T E :
All
door
lock
attaching parts in that they could affect the per­
formance of vital components and systems, and/or
could result in major repair expense. They must be
replaced w ith parts o f the same part numbers or
w ith equivalent parts if replacement becomes neces­
sary. Do not use replacement parts of lesser quality
or substitute design. Torque values must be used as
specified during reassembly to assure proper reten­
tion o f these parts.
Rear Lock Striker
Removal
1. O pen door.
2. Remove door striker using tool J-23457.
Installation
1. Install door striker using tool J-23457. T orque to specifi­
cations (Fig. 19).
2. A djust striker as outlined under "D oor A djustm ents" .

Front Latch Striker

1. Remove striker.
2. Install new striker. A djust as outlined under " Door
A djustm ents" " Fore and A ft" . T orque to specifications.
Sliding Door Adjustments
The side door can be adjusted for alignm ent an d /o r clear­
ance in the body opening and for proper latching. When
properly positioned in the body opening, the door should have
equal clearances around its perim eter.
Door adjustm ents consist o f the following: Up and down,
fore and aft, in and o u t, fro n t and rear strikers, rear door
wedge, u pper left hinge striker, and lower catch.
