FUEL T A N K A N D EXH A UST 8-2
C A U T IO N :
Before draining be sure th at the fuel
tank gauge unit wire or battery negative cable is
disconnected.
Always drain gasoline fro m complete fuel system
including carburetor, fuel pump, all fuel lines and
fuel tank if the vehicle is to be stored fo r any
appreciable length o f tim e. This precaution will
p reven t
accumulation
resultant poor engine performance.
FUEL TA N K (FIG . 2)
Removal and Installation
1.
Drain tank.
2.
Raise vehicle on hoist.
3.
U nclam p filler neck and vent tube hose.
4.
U nclam p gauge u n it hose at frame end.

F o r

series,
disconnect

attaching hoses (Fig.
).

. S upport tank and remove support strap(s).
7.
Low er tank until gauge unit wiring can be rem oved.
8
. Rem ove fuel tank.
9.
Install in the reverse order.
10.
Low er vehicle and rem ove from hoist.

Replacement
1.
Remove fuel tank as previously outlined.
2.
U nlock gauge cam ring using Tool J-23346 and remove
of
gum
form ation
and
all
evaporation
control

gauge unit from tank. (Fig. 4).
3.
Install gauge u n it using reverse o f removal procedure.
GAS CAP ID E N T IF IC A T IO N
The easiest way to identify the correct filler neck gas cap
for vehicles w ith the Evaporation C ontrol System (ECS), is to
check for the w ords " pressure-vacuum " on the inside o f the
cap. Also check for proper gas cap fit.
I f gas cap replacem ent is required, always check vehicle
identification and order by part num ber.
