2. Install flyw heel on crankshaft and position to align dowel
hole o f crankshaft flange and flywheel (Fig. 24L).

ENGINE MOUNTS

Engine m ounts are the non-adjustable type and seldom
require service. Broken or deteriorated m ounts should be
replaced im m ediately, because o f the added strain placed on
other m ounts and drive line com ponents.

CHECKING ENGINE MOUNTS

Front Mount

Raise the engine to remove w eight from the m ounts and to
place a slight tension in the rubber. Observe b oth m ounts
while raising engine. I f an engine m o u nt exhibits:
a.
H ard rubb er surface covered w ith h eat check cracks;
b.
R ubber separated from a m etal plate o f the m o u n t;
or
c.
R ubber split through center.
Replace the m o u n t. If there is relative m ovem ent betw een a
m etal plate o f the m o unt and its attaching points, low er the
engine on the m ounts and tighten the screws or nuts attaching
the m o u n t to the engine, fram e, or bracket.

Rear Mount

Raise the car on a hoist. Push up and pull dow n on the
transm ission tailshaft while observing the transm ission m ount.
I f the rubber separates from the m etal plate o f the m o un t or if
the tailshaft moves up b u t n o t dow n (m o u n t b o tto m ed out)
replace the m o u n t. If there is relative m ovem ent betw een a
m etal plate o f the m ou n t and its attaching po int, tighten the
screws or nuts attaching the m o u n t to th e transm ission or
crossm em ber.
Front Mount Replacement. (Fig. 25L)
1. Raise vehicle on h o is t.
2. O n m anual transm ission equipped vehicles.

D isconnect clutch rod at o u tb o ard lever on clutch
cross shaft.
