D isconnect accelerator linkage at dash panel m ounted
bell crank.
12.
D isconnect pow er brake vacuum line at inlet m anifold.
13.
Raise vehicle on a hoist and disconnect:
Fuel line (from tan k ) at fuel pum p.
Engine ground strap(s).
Steering idler arm at fram e.
Steering pitm an arm at steering gear as outlined in
Section 9.
B attery positive cable at starter.
Speedom eter cable at transm ission.
TCS sw itch at transm ission — remove bell housing
m o u n ted clip and position wiring to one side.
E xhaust pipe at m anifold and at pipe hangers—then
rem ove exhaust system from vehicle.
Transm ission at crossm ember.
Stabilizer shaft at fram e brackets.

Disconnect clutch linkage an d/or transm ission linkage
and remove cross shaft as outlined in Section 7.

Disconnect shock absorbers at frame or at low er control
arm attach m en t and position shocks up and rearw ard.

Remove propeller shaft as outlined in Section 4—install
plug in transm ission extension.

D isconnect front brake pipe at equalizer tee and dis­
connect rear brake pipe at connector at left fram e rail
(Fig. 1L).

D isconnect rear brake pipe at right fram e rail connector
(Fig. 2L).

R e m o v e
transm ission
attaching n u ts—do n o t remove bolts at this tim e.
20.
Rem ove th e six (3 on each side) vertically driven front
crossm em ber-to-fram e attaching bolts (Fig. 2L).
21.
Remove the four (2 on each side) fram e-to-upper control
arm (inside) attaching bolts (Fig.3L).
22.
Low er the vehicle on hoist so th a t w eight o f vehicle is on
hoist but w ith wheels touching floor and suspension at
curb height.
23.
Install w ood blocks betw een oil pan and crossm em ber to
stabilize engine assembly (Fig. 4L).
24.
Position floor jack under vehicle so th a t jack pad is
aligned under transm ission and, using a block o f w ood to
p ro tect transm ission, support transm ission w ith jack.
25.
Remove transm ission support crossm em ber.
26.
Rem ove th e four (2 on each side) rem aining suspension-
to-fram e (outside) retaining b olts (Fig. 3L).
27.
Raise vehicle slowly, leaving suspension and power train
on the floor until sufficient clearance is ob tain ed for
removing engine.
C A U T IO N :
Check often when raising the vehicle
to make sure that all disconnects have been made
and th at vehicle is positioned properly on hoist.
28.
Roll the pow er train and suspension assembly to the
w ork area and position ja ck stand under transm ission
extension— remove floor jack.
29.
Place floor jack under suspension crossm em ber and raise
jack so th at weight o f assembly is supported on jack pad.
30.
A ttach lifting adapter at engine lifting brackets.
31.
A ttach lifting device to su p p o rt engine, rem ove engine
m o u n t through bolts and remove engine assembly from
crossm em ber.
