Tire Mounting
When tires are m ounted on dirty or corroded rims, or
w hen they are n o t properly centered on rims, the tire bead
may " bin d " on the rim , and refuse to seat.
C A U T IO N : A llow ing pressure to continue to build
up w ithin the assembly in an attem p t to seat the tire
bead is a D A N G E R O U S
result in serious injury to the serviceman and a
broken tire bead.
Be Safe!
1.
Make sure th a t rim flanges and bead ledge (especially
hum p and radius) areas are sm ooth and clean. Remove
any oxidized rubber, dried soap solution, rust, heavy
paint, etc. w ith a wire brush, or, in extrem e cases, a file.
2.
Lubricate tire beads, rim flanges, and bead ledge areas
w ith a liberal am ount o f th in vegetable oil soap solution,
or approved rubber lubricant.
3.
Insure th a t air pressure build-up during the bead seating
process is n o t allowed to exceed 40 pounds pressure. If
beads have n o t seated by th e tim e pressure reaches 40
pounds, assembly should be deflated, repositioned on
rim , re-lubricated and re-inflated.
4.
Make sure valve core is inserted in valve stem prior to
inflating.
5.
Use an extension gauge w ith clip on chuck so air pressure
buildup can be closely w atched and so th a t y ou can stand
well back from th e assembly during the bead seating
process.
TUBELESS TIRES
Tubeless tires m ounted on one piece full drop center rims
are standard on some C hevrolet trucks. These tires have a
safety inner liner w hich if p unctu red, tends to cling to the
penetrating object form ing a partial seal until th e object is
rem oved from the tire.
The m ounting and dem ounting o f tubeless tru ck tires will
present no problem w hen a rubber lubricant, such as Ru-Glyde
or equivalent is applied to tire beads and rim flanges. Ru-Glyde
or equivalent in ad dition to m aterially assisting in m ounting
and dem ounting also prevents rusting at the tire sealing area
and thus prevents tires from adhering to th e wheel.

Demounting and Mounting
All tubeless tires used on Chevrolet trucks should be
dem ounted and m oun ted as described in this section. Sizes
may be dem o unted using present tire m achines or standard tire
irons following th e same procedure em ployed in servicing tube
ty p e tires.
C A U T IO N :
A hammer, or tools w ith sharp edges,
should never be used to demount or m ount tubeless
tires as damage to rim flange or tire sealing bead
may result.
Inspection for Leaks
1.
With wheel assembly rem oved from vehicle, inflate the
tire to recom m ended operating pressure.
2.
Check for leaks at rim bead by placing wheel and tire
horizontal and allowing w ater to stand in groove betw een
rim and tire. Check for large leaks by low ering assembly
into w ater ta n k or running w ater over tire.
