The clutch operating controls for G-Series Chevy Vans and
Sport Vans are mechanical. The mechanical linkage consists o f
pendant ty p e pedal, return spring, pedal pull rod, cross-shaft,
fo rk push rod, clutch fork and th ro w o u t bearing (fig. 1). The
pedal pull rod is ro u ted vertically, inside th e cab, from the
pedal lever dow n through a seal b o o t on th e toe pan, to the
CLUTCH FREE PEDAL TR A V E L ADJUSTMENT
Only one simple adjustm ent is necessary to m aintain clutch
efficiency and assure long life. This adjustm ent is for the
am ount o f free clutch pedal travel before the throw out bearing
contacts the clutch fingers. As clutch facings wear, the am ount
o f free pedal travel is reduced and in tim e this will result in
clutch slippage. T herefore, it is necessary to adjust pedal at
periodic intervals to
provide sufficient free pedal travel
( 3 /4 "-1" ) to perm it full engagem ent o f the clutch.
1.
D isconnect clutch fork return spring at fork.
2.
Loosen n u t "A " (fig. 2) and back o ff from swivel

approxim ately
inch.
3.
Hold clutch fork push rod against fork to move throw out
bearing against clutch fingers (push rod will slide through
swivel at cross-shaft).

cross-shaft lever. When the clutch pedal is depressed, the pedal
pull o r push ro d moves upw ard rotating the cross-shaft,
pushing th e fo rk push rod rearw ard, and pivoting th e clutch
fo rk to move the throw out bearing against the clutch release
fingers and releasing the clutch.

R otate lever in direction o f Arrow, D (fig. 2) until clutch
pedal contacts bum per m ounted on parking brake sup­
port.

A djust n u t " B" to obtain approxim ately 3 /1 6 " to 1/4"
clearance betw een n u t " B" and swivel.

. Release push rod, connect return spring and tighten nut
" A " to lock swivel against nut " B" being careful n o t to
disturb n u t " B" .

Check free pedal clearance at pedal (fig. 3). Readjust if
necessary.
IN SU FFIC IEN T CLUTCH RELEASE
Where com plaints o f first or reverse gear clash due to
insufficient clutch release are encountered, the following may
be helpful. Cut o ff the existing clutch pedal stop bum per to a
height o f 3 /8 " . Since shortening the bum per increases the lash
