5. T urn C lutch assembly until " X" m ark on clutch cover
flange lines up w ith " X" m ark on flywheel.

. Install attaching bolts and tighten each one a turn at a
tim e to prevent distorting the cover as the spring pressure
is taken up.
7. Remove clutch pilot Tool J-5824.

. Pack clutch fork ball seat w ith a small am ount o f high
melting point grease and install a new retainer in the
groove o f the clutch fork if the old retainer is w orn or
dam aged.
N O T E :
Install retainer w ith high side up, away
fro m bottom o f the ball socket and w ith open end
of retainer on the horizontal.
C A U T IO N :
Be careful not to use too much lubri­
cant.
9. Replace clutch fork ball if removed in the clutch housing
and snap clutch fork onto the ball.
10. L ubricate the recess on the inside o f the throw out
bearing collar and coat the throw out fork groove w ith a
small am ount of graphite grease (fig.
11. Install throw out bearing assembly to the throw ou t fork.
12. Assemble transm ission as outlined in Transmission Sec­
tion, and install flywheel underpan.
13. Align push rod to clutch fork and attach return spring to
clutch fork.
14. A djust clutch linkage (See adjustm ents in this section).

The coil spring single plate clutch is a dry disc type and no
adjustm ent for wear is provided in the clutch itself. An
individual adjustm ent is provided for locating each lever in
m anufacturing b u t the adjusting nut is locked in place and
should never be disturbed, unless the clutch is dism antled for
replacem ent o f parts.
When the clutch pedal is depressed the release bearing is
removed tow ard the flywheel and contacts the inner ends of
the release levers, (1) (fig. 7). Each release lever is pivoted on a
floating pin w hich remains stationary in the lever and rolls
across a short flat p o rtion o f the enlarged hole in the eyebolt
(2). The outer end o f each release lever engages the pressure
plate lug be means o f a strut (3 ), w hich provides knife-edge
contact betw een the outer end o f the lever and the lug. The
outer ends o f the eyebolts extend through holes in the
stam ped cover (4 ), and are fitted w ith adjusting nuts (5) to
correctly position the levers.
