N O T E :
In addition to packing the bearings, make
sure the
lubricant reservoir at the end o f each
trunnion
is com pletely filled
filling these reservoirs, pack lubricant into the hole
so as to fill from the b otto m . This w ill prevent air
pockets and ensure an adequate supply o f lubricant.
To replace tru n n io n dust seal, remove the old dust seal and
place new seal on tru n n io n -c a v ity o f seal tow ard end o f
tru n n io n -P re ss seal o n to tru n n io n exercising caution during
installation to prevent seal d istortion and to assure proper
seating o f seal on trunnion.

On all other universal join ts lubricate trunnion
bearing rollers.
c.
Insert trunnion in propeller shaft yoke and press
bearings into yoke and over tru n n io n hubs far
enough to install lock rings.
Installation
1. F or m odels w ith one piece propeller shafts, slide shaft
into transm ission and attach rear U -joint to axle. T orque
bolts to specifications.

This
propeller
fastener is an im portant attaching part in th at it
could affect the performance o f vital components
and systems, and/or could result in major repair
expense. It must be replaced w ith one of the same
part number or w ith an equivalent part if replace­
m ent becomes necessary. Do not use a replacement
part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque
values must be used as specified during reassembly
to assure proper retention of this part.
2. F or m odels w ith tw o piece shafts, install front h alf into
transm ission and bolt support to crossm em ber.
a.
Slide grease cap and gasket o n to rear splines.
b.
R o tate shaft so front U -joint tru n n io n is in a vertical
position.
c.
Take rear propeller shaft and before installing align
U -joint trunnions in same vertical position as in step
b (a t this p o in t all U-joint tru nn io ns should be
vertical). (Fig. 29). Then, note relationship o f front
shaft and rear shaft spline position. R o tate rear shaft
four splines tow ard left side o f vehicle (Fig. 29) and
install rear shaft to fro n t shaft. A tta ch rear U-joint
to axle. T ighten grease cap.
