V E N T LINES AND/O R SEPARATOR (TYPICAL)
Removal
1.
Raise vehicle on hoist.
2.
I f rem oving separator, remove spare tire and access cover.
3.
Rem ove clam p securing pipe.
4.
Remove hose clamps and remove pipe.
Installation
1.
Install pipe to hose and install hose clamps.
Check connections to assure th a t hose and clamp seal
connection.
N O T E :
I f replacing hose, use only replacement
hose marked E VA P.
2.
Install clam p retaining pipe.
When installing a new exhaust pipe, m uffler or tailpipe, on
any m odel, care should be taken to have th e correct alignm ent
and relationship o f th e com ponents to each other. Particular
care should be given to the installation of the exhaust pipe and
crossover pipe assembly on V

EXHAUST PIPE
Removal
1.
Raise vehicle on hoist.
2.
D isconnect exhaust pipe from engine.
3.
D isconnect exhaust pipe clamps at hanger and m uffler.
4.
Remove exhaust pipe.
Installation
1. Install exhaust pipe into m uffler.

2.
Using new gaskets (V-
), install pipe to engine.
3.
Install clamps at hanger and m uffler.
4.
Check pipe alignm ent assuring th a t there is no in ter­
ference. T orque clamps to specifications.
5.
Low er vehicle and remove from hoist.
EXHAUST SYSTEM
IM P O R T A N T :
Make
components have at least 3 /4 inch clearance from
the floo r pan to avoid possible overheating of the
floor pan and possible damage to the passenger
com partm ent carpets.

Disassembly
1.
D isconnect lines at valve.
2.
Snap o ff valve cap (Slowly remove cap as diaphragm is
under spring tension). Remove diaphragm , spring retainer
and spring.
3.
Replace parts as necessary. Check orifice openings.
Assembly
1. Install spring, spring retainer, diaphragm and cap.
2.
R econnect hoses.

gases. Leave all clamp bolts and m uffler strap bolts loose until
all parts are properly aligned and then tighten, w orking from
front to rear.
N O T E :
When reinstalling exhaust pipe to mani­

fold, always use new packings and nuts. Be sure to
clean
manifold
before installing the new nuts.
M UFFLER AND TAILPIPE
Removal
1.
Remove exhaust pipe as previously outlined.
2.
Rem ove clamps retaining m uffler and tailpipe and
remove from vehicle.
Installation
1. Install exhaust pipe to engine as previously outlined.
2.
Install m uffler o n to exhaust pipe.
3.
Install tailpipe o n to m uffler and attach tailpipe to frame.
4.
Install all clam ps; check for interference, realigning as
necessary, and torque clamps to specifications.
