Installation
1. Make sure new sw itch is clean and free o f lint. I f any
doubt exists, wash the sw itch in d enatured alcohol or
brake fluid and allow to dry.
2. Place new sw itch in position and secure w ith screws.

3. Connect hydraulic lines to valve.

4.
Connect sw itch electrical lead.
5.
Bleed the brake system .

Brake Warning Light Checking

1. Set parking brake and tu rn the ignition key to " ON."
2. Warning lam p should light.
3. If lamp does not light: bulb is burned o u t or electrical
circuit is defective.
4. T urn ignition key off.
5.
Replace bulb or repair circuit as necessary.

Testing Warning Switch

1.
Raise vehicle on a hoist an d attach a bleeder hose to a
rear brake bleed screw and immerse the other end o f hose
in a container partially filled w ith clean brake fluid. Be
sure m aster cylinder reservoirs are full.
N O T E :
When bleeding the brakes; the pin in the
end of the metering portion o f the combination
valve must be held in the open position (not allowed
to close). This can be accomplished by installing
Tool J-2 37 09 under the mounting bolt and de­
pressing the pin a slight am ount. Be sure to re­
torque
the
mounting
J-2 3 7 0 9 (Fig. 6).

T urn ignition key " O N ." O pen bleed screw while helper
applies heavy pressure to brake pedal. Warning lam p
should light. Close bleed screw before helper releases
pedal.
N O T E :
To
"reset"
switch,
force. This force will apply hydraulic pressure which
re-centers the switch contact.

T urn ignition key off. See N ote under step 2.

Low er vehicle to floor.
N O T E :
I f warning lamp does not light during Steps
2 and 3, but does light when the parking brake is
set,
warning
light
switch
attem p t to repair switch. A defective switch must be
replaced w ith a new combination valve assembly.
C A U T IO N :
Caution should be taken to prevent air
from entering system during checks on switch.
The recom m ended checking interval should be 24 m onths,
any tim e m ajor brake w ork is done or any tim e a custom er
com plains o f excessive pedal travel.

Removal
1.
Remove push rod clevis pin.
2.
Remove clutch lever from right side, if m anual trans­
m ission,
or
retainer
transm ission.
