The double-contact regulator assembly (Fig. 2c) consists o f
a double-contact voltage regulator unit and a field relay unit.
This unit uses tw o sets o f contact points on the voltage
regulator un it to obtain desired field excitation u nder variable
conditions. A wiring diagram o f th e regulator internal circuit is
illustrated in Fig. 2c.
Wiring harnesses are p ro tected by fusible links. A fusible
link is a length o f special wire, norm ally four gauges smaller
th a n the circuit it is protecting, used in circuits th a t are n ot
norm ally fused such as the ignition circuit. The same size wire

The links are located in the engine com partm ent wiring
harnesses and each link will be identified w ith its gauge size.
On m ost models there is a 16 gauge, red wire fusible link
installed as an integral part o f the positive b attery cable or
located betw een th e solenoid b a tte ry term inal and the ju n c ­
tio n block. Refer to the wiring diagrams included in Section
