Installation
1. Apply a light coating o f High T em perature Grease to the
main drive gear bearing retainer and splined portion o f
transm ission main drive gear shaft to assure free m ove­
m ent o f clutch and transm ission com ponents during
assembly.
C A U T IO N : Do not apply an excessive am ount of
grease in the above areas, as under normal operation
this grease would be throw n onto clutch facings
resulting in clutch failure.
2. M ount transm ission on dolly or jack and move into
position under the vehicle.
3. Align the transm ission main drive gear shaft with the
clutch disc hub by rotating the transm ission o u tp u t shaft.
Move the transm ission forw ard, guiding the main drive
gear shaft into the clutch disc splines.
IM P O R T A N T : Avoid springing the clutch when
the transmission is being installed to the engine. Do

not force the transmission into the clutch disc hub.
Do not let the transmission hang unsupported in the
splined portion of the clutch disc.
4. Install flywheel housing-to-transm ission m ounting bolts
and washers.
5. Carefully raise the engine and transm ission assembly to
norm ally installed position. Install rear crossm ember and
rear m ount attaching parts. Tighten attaching bolts and
nuts to specifications.

. Remove adjustable jack stand from under the engine and
transm ission.
7. Connect propeller shaft to transm ission as described in
"PRO PELLER SH A FTS" (Section 4) o f this manual.
Remove transm ission jack.
8
. Install flywheel housing underpan. Tighten cap screws
firmly.
9. R econnect speedom eter cable back-up lamp sw itch, and
"T.C .S." Switch at transm ission.
10. Reinstall shift controls to transm ission side cover. Tight­
en lever bolts to specifications.
11. If o th er equipm ent (exhaust pipe, support brackets, etc.)
was rem oved, reinstall these parts.
